FROM THE GROUP PUBLISHER & SHOW DIRECTOR
Ilove March. Not only is it the beginning of spring, baseball, March Madness, and T-shirts and flip flops, it means
WPPI is in my rear view mirror. The show
is over and now the fun begins...planning
the next one! Some of our craziest ideas
have come out of early planning sessions
right after the last show. Take, for example,
“The Champagne Shoot-Out” where we
had a stage in each corner of the room with
a photographer mic-ed up, giving tips on
stage. It was a huge hit, except for the fact that we didn’t serve Champagne; we
served ice cream. This was mostly due to budgetary restrictions, but calling
it the “Ice Cream Shoot-Out” didn’t quite have the same ring. Oddly enough,
people loved the idea of us serving ice cream and they crowded the stages,
eager to learn from the photographers that we showcased, all the while heartily
enjoying their frozen treat. The next year, we decided to bring a band into the
mix—the Grammy-winning band Blues Traveler took the stage at WPPI and
brought down the house. It was an amazing event, one that people absolutely
loved and still talk about. I always look back and think about how that was
a real turning point for WPPI, because it was where we became something
“BIG.” Suddenly we were more than just a convention with speakers and a
trade show with booths, we were an event. WPPI has since evolved into a
show that you just can’t miss because every year we have something different
and exciting scheduled.
See you at the next show, March 7-14, 2013!
