I find it impossible to look at Moroccan-born photographer Hassan Hajjaj’s pictures without feeling delight from his bold and
colorful compositions, even if it means being sharply reminded of the uninspiring contents of my own closet. He’s featured in
Aperture’s upcoming book Dandy Lion: The Black Dandy and Street Style by Shantrelle P. Lewis, comprising over 200 photos of
this style subculture. Hajjaj’s use of vibrant patterns, and spectacular, eye-popping color amplify the arresting visual experience
of the book as a whole, and it’s the reason we chose his photograph to grace the cover.
