As your brand evolves over time, there are important
questions you should be asking along the way—things like,
“How can I continue to broaden my skill set and expertise?
What are clients requesting most as add-ons? How can I
easily include something in demand, like filmmaking, without
breaking the bank and without neglecting or abandoning
my photography?” These days, more and more clients do seem to be asking
for video and multimedia packages, so we wanted to bring in some expert
voices—as well as take a look at some cost-saving gear—to help get you started.
Our show component, WPPI, added a filmmaking track to its educational lineup
three years ago, and we have since followed suit in print with related articles as
often as we can. From affordable filmmaking accessories and cinema lens love
to tips from a WPPI award-winning storyteller, VR weddings and video package
upsells, this issue covers as much gear, trends and alternative methods as we
could include in one powerhouse punch. But maybe you’re not all pursuing
motion work right now, and that’s okay. Not every client will demand it. This
month’s “Photographer You Should Know” is Miller Mobley, and while he has
shot some motion work, his mainstay is his burgeoning editorial portfolio of
celebrity portraiture that includes timeless film icons
like cover subject Christopher Walken. Don’t forget
to check out the winners from our Seeing the Light
contest, too; the results will amaze you. Enjoy!

ON THE COVER
“This was surreal because Christopher Walken
was one of my first celebrities to photograph,”
says celebrity portrait photographer Miller Mobley
of the cover, originally shot for The Hollywood
Reporter. “I remember setting up our lights, doing
a test and then waiting for him to arrive. A few
minutes later, I heard the Walken voice down the
hallway and knew the shoot was about to happen.
It was a cool moment knowing that I was about to
photograph such an iconic, memorable actor.”
