Aself-taught, professional photographer since age 19, Pat Furey describes his work as stylized photojournalism.
“I’m insanely laid back and tend to lay low on a wedding
day, but creating unique portraits is why most seek out my
work,” he says. Shooting digitally, Furey likes to create the
organic look of film as close as possible using digital tools.
“I use a highly personalized VSCO film emulation to get my
look, with the occasional help from Photoshop via Alien Skin
Exposure,” he explains. Furey says he had various hobbies
as a teenager but none of them stuck until photography: “For
me, it was important to spend the time to refine my skills on
my own.” With his weddings widely published everywhere—
from J.Crew’s blog to Green Wedding Shoes to Style Me
Pretty—his tactics have clearly paid off. —JG
