Hands up: How many of you know what
ambisonic sound is? Anyone recently bought
VR goggles or own a Vuze camera? Who of you
upsell still photo packages by adding wedding
films? Maybe you’ve been shooting weddings
with a DSRL for the last several years and your clients aren’t
asking for multimedia packages? That’s okay. But when they
do start asking (and many already are), this issue will help prep
you on the terminology, styles and gear you need to be familiar
with. After all, there’s no better way these days to tell a story
than with a film—for commercial or wedding clients—as WPPI
first-place filmmaking winners Abraham Joffe and Blue Kite
Cinema can attest. Speaking of WPPI, the 2017 show has come
and gone with much fanfare, and 2018 is already in the works
(block out March 10-14 on your calendar). Oh, and we have a
makeover alert: Our website got a facelift! In addition to being
more visual, we are now a responsive site with vastly improved
navigation. Go to rangefinderonline.com for everything portrait
and wedding related, all under one roof,
including WPPI updates as well as items
previously found on our PhotoForward
blog—Photo of the Day, Wedding of the
Week, Tech Tuesday and more. Enjoy!

ON THE COVER
When Wells Fargo needed a photographer to
shoot six professionals from various fields around
New York City for their “Why I Work” campaign,
they called on Chris Schoonover. “Rog Walker and
I have been friends for a few years,” he says of the
cover subject, “and as soon as I got this project, I
thought of him and his wife, Bee,” both of whom
are photographers and filmmakers like Schoonover.
This was shot at the World Trade Center’s Oculus,
an architectural phenomenon with clean white
marble walls. “The space just felt surreal,” he says.
“It was the perfect place to shoot.”
Read about Schoonover’s shooting style and
burgeoning filmmaking, starting on page 32.
