Emma Case Photography—comprised of husband- and-wife team Emma Case and Pete Smyth—marries
quirky, off-beat British weddings with the kind of editorial
photography that could be easily featured in Town &
Country. “Wedding photography was a happy accident
when Pete proposed and bought me a camera the
same Christmas, and it’s been an incredible rollercoaster
ever since,” Case says. The team sticks mainly to digital
equipment, supplemented by a Polaroid 600 Spirit and
Coronet Cadet with Kodak 120 film and Impossible Film. “I
am constantly drawn to the beauty in the every day and like
to see beyond just a ‘wedding day,’ ” Case explains of her
philosophy. “[The couple’s] history, their upbringing, what’s
important in their lives, relationships, nostalgia, sounds,
texture…it’s all part of their story. Our work is honest, real,
simple and intimate, and often people say that they have an
emotional connection to the couple in our images. I love it
that our images reflect that.” —Jessica Gordon
